Gambia Standard Chartered Bank Donates to SoS Children s Village

Standard Chartered Bank's Group Internal Audit Team from Ghana, Nigeria, and The Gambia on Friday 26th August 2011 donated books and food items to the orphans in the Standard Chartered house at the SOS Children's Village in order to reaffirm the Bank's brand promise of being 'Here for Good'. In addition to the donation of the educational materials and food items, the team spent a few hours mentoring the 10 orphans living in the Bank's sponsored house.
Harry Dankyi, head of Audit Ghana and West Africa commended the mothers of the village for their commitment to the children. He said that these foster mothers are remarkable people who should be recognised for their tireless and endless dedication towards the orphans of the village. Concluding, he noted that Standard Chartered is focused on being a positive force in all the communities it operates in, committed to its focus on sustainability and leading the way in The Gambia.
The SCB team and the children engaged in a question and answer session that was led by Mr. Emeka Owoh, Audit Manager Nigeria. In response to Sainey Trawally, one of the children of the village, who wants to be a banker in the future, Owoh said that with hard work, dedication, and commitment to education, the sky can be the limit for him. He assured Sainey that with great success in education, he stands a great chance of being hired into senior management positions within Standard Chartered locally and abroad.
Haddy Touray Njie, director of the Village extended her immense appreciation to the support brought to the children by the Audit team and the Bank's overall support to the SOS Children's Village over the past three years ranging from yearly sponsorships of $8, 900 for three consecutive years, to donation of mosquito nets, food, clothes, toys, etc. The event ended with hugs and great laughs from the children and staff of the village making the day a remarkable one for the Standard Chartered team.
